Description

Mahjong rack bag for carrying up to 4 'small' Mahjong Racks, measuring up to 17" each.

Mahjong rack bags protect your racks during transport and are excellent for keeping the racks from jiggling around in cases.

The bag is handmade in Australia with a 100% cotton shell in a bright butterfly pattern. The bag is lined with orange satin, providing cushiony protection for your favourite mahjong racks. Draw-strings are finished with a black wooden bead, each draw-string is finished with The Pickled Poet's signature toggle featuring 7 Chinese coin tokens.

The full sleeve size is 22.5" (57cm) length by 6" (15cm) width, with a 19" (48cm) length compartment for holding racks.

The bag comfortably holds racks up to 4 x 17" racks and is perfect for the Bakelite racks that no longer have coin ends or smaller wooden racks.

~*~ FAQs - Additional Information on The Pickled Poet's items ~*~

Q: What is a standard rack? this listing says small/or standard/or large...
A: The Pickled Poet measures a STANDARD Mahjong rack as:
~ Length: 18¼" (46.3cm)
~ Height: 1¼" (3.2cm) at the highest point
~ Depth: 2½" (6.4cm) front to back
~ Circumference: 6½" (at the widest point of the coin end)
All listings that are not for standard racks will have the measurements for the racks that will fit, if you need more information please ask!

Q: Can you make me something like this, but with difference fabric or a different size?
A: Absolutely! Just ask!!

Q: What is the difference between a Rack Bag, a Rack Sleeve and a Slipcase? I'm confused...
A: (this is long...)
~ A RACK BAG is one big pocket that all of your racks go in together. The bag is pulled closed with a drawstring. Rack Bags do fit in cases, but work best in Totes.
~ A RACK SLEEVE is a single sleeve; each sleeve fits one rack only. Rack sleeves are open at the top, do not have drawstrings, and fit into Mahjong cases and Totes. Rack Sleeves can be used inside Rack Bags for additional protection if desired.

There are two different types of SLIPCASES: Drawstring and Open. A Slipcase is like four (or five) individual Racks Sleeves in one bag; each rack slips in to its own channel.
~ In OPEN SLIPCASES the racks slide in to their own channels, the tops stay open, and two bands loop around the racks (one near the top, one near the bottom) keeping the racks tied together. Great in Totes or large cases.
~ A DRAWSTRING SLIPCASE is a combination of the above three; as with the open slipcase the racks slide in to their own channels; however, in the Drawstring Slipcase, the top pulls together like a Rack Bag with a long drawstring and the bottom is looped with a single band, yet all racks are in their own channels.

Q: What does The Pickled Poet's Tote hold?
A: The Pickled Poet's Totes hold four standard mahjong racks, and either: two tile trays with or without sleeves, or two small tile bags. One tile bag does fit at one end of the tote but you may find you like to add something at the other end for balance.

Eligible items are those that, for the purpose of loss or damage, are tracked and insured for shipping (refund is only provided via the insurance claim), or those that are not as described in the item description. There are no refunds if you choose to keep an item that is not as described.

Economy shipping (untracked and uninsured) is the default for all listings other than mahjong sets. The Pickled Poet will provide quotes for shipping with tracking and insurance prior to purchase. Please convo me.

I will refund a complete mahjong set for change of mind as it is important to me that you are happy with your set. If you receive your set and change your mind, please contact me within 7 days. I will refund the purchase price only (minus a 20% re-listing fee), when the set is received by me in 'as sent' condition. Return shipping cost is at buyers expense and returned items must be tracked and fully insured for transit.

CUSTOM-MADE ITEMS:
Refunds/Replacements on custom-made items are conditional:
- I work hard to ensure custom-made items are to the exact specifications provided. It is the buyers responsibility to ensure precise and accurate measurements are sent.
- Refunds are only available for items not as described in the listing as all items are handmade according to provided measurements.
- Replacement items are possible but depend on fabric availability. The original item must be returned. Replacements are charged as a new item if the provided measurements were incorrect.
- Postage on returning items (for refund or replacement) is the responsibility of the buyer and all items must be tracked and insured for returning post.
- All returned items must be unused.
- Retained items are not refunded.

Shipping policies

Combined shipping is possible on most items. Larger items may not be eligible for combined shipping due to weight restrictions. Please contact The Pickled Poet for further information if you wish to combine shipping.

Delivery is via Australia Post.
Postage for items purchased from the shop will generally occur within 3 business days of payment (most are sent the next business day).

Custom orders are processed in order of request and priority. Depending on the current workload, custom orders can take anywhere from a couple of days to up to 6 weeks to make and post. Please enquire for current turn-around times, especially if your order is urgent. I pride myself on fast turnaround, but will not sacrifice quality of product or service by rushing.

A confirmation email will be sent when the item is shipped. International delivery is possible, but customs duties and taxes are the buyers responsibility.

If you are outside of Australia, please contact The Pickled Poet prior to purchase with your destination details. Insurance and tracking can be purchased as additional extras for shipping.

**VERY IMPORTANT**
Items can be sent with or without tracking, and with or without insurance. If you elect the cheapest shipping option, be aware that this is untracked and uninsured. If your item is damaged in transit or lost, The Pickled Poet is not responsible for its replacement or refund if you elect not to have tracking or insurance added to the base postal charges of your item.
Please evaluate what this item and the cost of it means to you, and if you are prepared to accept liability for that. If you are not, please contact me for the additional charges of tracking and insurance if they are not included as upgrades in the listing.

**If you chose not to take out tracking and insurance on your purchase, The Pickled Poet is not responsible for loss or damage as a result of transit.**

Additional policies

If you have any questions regarding an item, please email The Pickled Poet before purchase. I prefer to answer a lot of questions and make sure you are happy with your purchase, than have an unhappy customer!

Items are described as accurately as possible, with images forming an important part of the description. Please look at the listing images closely and email The Pickled Poet if you would like more information than the images and the listing provides. This is especially important when considering the purchase of a vintage Mah Jong set as they are all different.

The Mah Jong tiles, racks, dice and coins sold here are vintage items. The vintage cases are sometimes re-lined inside with re-covered and re-lined tile trays to match the original case as close as possible - where this has occurred it is stated in the listing. The sets have surface wear, paint colour variations and wear from age and use, slight scratching, variations in patina across the set, as well as other quirks that are unique to vintage items. The vintage cases generally have some degree of external damage, consistent with use. The sets for sale here are up to 90 years old, some are very worn, have been loved and have character.

If you are looking for a perfect set, in perfect condition, these sets are not for you. I am happy to put you in contact with sellers of new sets.

If you are looking for craft tiles, please seen the Orphans section of this shop. I occasionally sell orphans at a very low price specifically for re-purpose. Complete sets in good condition are hard to find, and breaking a complete set for craft is against my philosophy.

Rack bags, tile bags, totes and coin/dice bags are new, hand-made items. I will occasionally list a case that I have made for a set where the original case was too damaged to re-use; this will be stated in the item listing.

Custom-made items are a specialty of The Pickled Poet, with items made to the measurements provided by the customer. I ask for precise and accurate measurements to enable me to make your items as perfect for your requirements as possible. If inaccurate measurements are sent, this is what an item is made for! Please measure your items carefully and ask any questions if you are uncertain. I prefer to spend a lot of time helping to get measurements correct than having to remake items!

Instruction books are new items, designed by The Pickled Poet, and printed here in Canberra by business to our specifications.

FAQs

The Pickled Poet specialises in customisations and personalised orders. All items in the shop can be customised to meet your requirements - please enquire for fabric availability and cost. If you don't see what you want but have some ideas, send a convo and see what The Pickled Poet can do for you!
The Pickled Poet measures a STANDARD Mahjong rack as:
~ Length: 18¼" (46.3cm)
~ Height: 1¼" (3.2cm) at the highest point
~ Depth: 2½" (6.4cm) front to back
~ Circumference: 6½" (16.5cm) at the widest point of the coin end
All listings that are not for standard mahjong racks will have the measurements for the racks that will fit, if you need more information please ask!
~ A RACK BAG is one big pocket that all of your racks go in together, with a drawstring close. Rack Bags do fit in cases, but work best in Totes.
~ A RACK SLEEVE is a single sleeve; each sleeve fits one rack. Rack Sleeves are open at the top (no drawstrings) and fit into Mahjong cases and Totes. Theycan be used inside Rack Bags as well!

SLIPCASES are like four (or five) individual Racks Sleeves in one bag; each rack slips in to its own channel.
~ In OPEN SLIPCASES the racks slide in to their own channels, the tops stay open, and two bands (top & bottom) loop around the racks.
~ A DRAWSTRING SLIPCASE combines the above three; racks slide in to their own channels, and the slipcase closes with a drawstring at top and band at bottom.
The Pickled Poet's Tote is super versatile. It hold four standard mahjong racks and either: two tile trays (with or without sleeves) or two small tile bags (recommended if you prefer tile bags). One tile bag does fit at one end of the tote but you may find you like to add something at the other end for balance.

The tote has two nice long straps that can be tied in many places to provide you with whatever length handle you prefer.

Yes, it's sturdy!! It's not padded, simply because that means you can wrap it up as a 'parcel' using the long ties when it's not in use, then pop it in the cupboard for storage. Keeps sets very safe and secure.

I LOVE my tote, and the versatility & ease of use is the reason I designed this Tote system.
Em specialises in custom-made items and personalised service, what you see in the shop are examples of what The Pickled Poet can do for you. Em will spend hours in the background working on your items, and time working with you on designing, selecting fabrics, making sure all of the measurements are correct to get your items perfect for you, and that's before the pattern planning for customisations, cutting fabric and sewing even starts! What you are paying for are products that are designed by The Pickled Poet, expertly manufactured from premium fabrics with love and careful attention, personalised friendly service, and a LOT of time. If that's what you are looking for, you will find it at The Pickled Poet.
ABSOLUTELY!!! This is what Em at The Pickled Poet does best.
Em LOVES to make one of a kind items. If you have an idea of what you would like, or even if you don't, just send Em a message and we can work through some options for you.
Very important question - thanks for asking!
Rack Bags are bigger than the average wine bottle, but don't let this stop you! with a bit of padding in the top and around the sides, these bags make a perfect present for your hostess that doesn't have a rack bag, and loves a glass of wine.
Of course, if you'd just prefer a bag that fits a bottle of wine perfectly, send Em a message to have one whipped up!!
Other variations on this question I have had:
~ can you make me a music bag?
~ can you make me a bag like the tote but a bit deeper and with more pockets so I can use it as a simple nappy bag?
among others...
The answer is always YES! Happy to assist any way I can. If you love what I make enough to ask if I can do something special for you, I'm always going to jump in and design something nifty!!
