This Coach Dinky Bag was made in New York City. In my opinion the color is either 'Putty' or 'Tabac' but there are those who disagree with my opinion on colors so I have included a 1981 Coach Color chart for you can decide.

This Dinky Bag is likely to become a collector's item because it was made in New York City in the 70's or early 1980's. Bags from this era are becoming very difficult to find. You can however, buy a new limited edition Coach Dinky Bag this year because it was one of three iconic Coach Bags selected by Coach to look back on in its 75th year with a special edition:

"Coach has undergone a major revamp under the keen eye of creative director Stuart Vevers, but on the occasion of celebrating 75 years in the leather biz, the brand is taking a look back by launching three customized iconic vintage bags. The Dinky, Stewardess and Duffle were selected for the "Coach Vintage Collection," sourced from collections all over the world, but originally created in NYC in the 1970s and 80s....The limited-edition collection retails for $595-$1,195 and will be available exclusively at Barneys New York locations on Madison Avenue and Beverly Hills, as well as barneys.com." http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/trends/g6930/coach-75th-anniversary/

You can buy this slightly distressed but very cool NYC Dinky bag from our shop for close to the same price it was listed at in 1981. This is what Coach had to say about the Dinky Bag in its 1981 Catalog:

No. 9375
Dinky bag...... $46

Complete with inside zipper compartment. Doubles nicely as evening bag. One piece sewn on tubular handle. Solid brass turn lock. All 10 coach colors shown on page 3.

Length: 9 inches
Height: 5 inches
Width: 2 inches

Strap Drop: 22-24 inches

This bag has some miles on it but it is structurally sound. Unlike the other Dinky bag we have listed, this bag has NO tears in the beading. In fact it has no rips or tears at all. However, it does have many signs of distress in the form of scuffs and scratches. Moreover, although the turnlock works, it could use some tightening up which is a problem I haven't yet learned to solve. There are also small ink marks on the side of the bag. This bag may have more scratches, scuffs and wrinkles than you find in a bag this age but I think it adds to its character. Please review the photos carefully because they are part of this piece’s description and condition. Please feel free to ask questions or ask for more photos. Etsy limits the number of photos we can post with listing so we have more available.

Significance of New York City Coach Bags

NYC Coach bags are beginning to disappear at an alarming rate. This Coach leather bag is one of the most sought after Coach products by collectors because it is a "New York City Bag". These are some of the highest quality Coach products. "New York City" bags were made in the original Coach factory in New York City that operated from the late 1960's through the mid 1980's. Some, but not all, of the Coach bags produced during this era were designed by the well known American designer Bonnie Cashin. Consequently, when you buy a New York City Coach bag you are buying more than an accessory, you are making a potential investment.

The statement on the creed: "Made in New York City, U.S.A." verifies this bag's origin. It bears Coach registration number No 349-0915
