Description

Here's a great souvenir spoon from the Chicago World's Fair, A Century of Progress, held in 1933 & 1934 in Chicago to mark the city's centennial. The fair opened its gates on May 27, 1933 and closed them on November 1, 1933. However, due to the success & popularity of the fair, it was reopened on May 26, 1934 and ran until October 31, 1934. By the time it closed, the fair had seen over 48 million visitors from around the world.

The spoon has a reticulated end to its handle and attached to it is a small sterling silver plaque with "1933-34" at the top and "A CENTURY OF PROGRESS CHICAGO" at the bottom of it.

A terrific addition to your - or someone else's - sterling spoon collection, the spoon measures 5.625" - 5 & 5/8" - from the tip of the bowl to the tip of the handle. The bowl is 2.0" long by 1.25" wide at its widest point. It is marked "Sterling" on the back of the handle and has an impressed mark consisting of a crown encircling a cross that has a letter "M" inside it, the hallmark of the Manchester Silver Co., which operated in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1914 - 1985.

All in all, the spoon is in very good condition with a bit of wear that's consistent with its age.
