Description

One (1) Hardwood Toy Train set w/six cars

27" long, 2-3/4" wide, 3" high
1 lb., 14 oz.

Engine: oak with birch smoke stack
Coal car: cherry
Oil carrier: douglas fir (not a hardwood)
Box car: ash
Log carrier: birch
Caboose: mahogany
bases: poplar
wheels: birch
water-based glue, mineral oil and no metal fasteners.

This is the very first toy that I made and the one nearest and dearest to my heart. Other than a change to the connector configuration, it is the same design used for the train I made for my son back in 1994. He spent countless hours dragging his train through the house and that is the very same wish I have for every train that I make.
This train is very durable and if not abused and with regular oil treatments, it should last for many generations.

Every surface is sanded smooth , all edges are rounded-over and sanded again.

Each car has been submerged in mineral oil providing a stain-resistant, rich luster finish to every piece. The oil also facilitates the movement of the wheels and axles making for an ultra-smooth, squeak-free ride on the rails.

I would recommend oiling the train about once per year and keeping it out of prolonged, direct sunlight.

Potential CHOKING HAZARD: while it is very unlikely, the wheels and axles could come unglued. This would present a possible but not ideal choking hazard. Each wheel is 1" in diameter, 1/2" thick and has a 1/4" hole in the center. There is also potential for the buttons on top of the oil-carrier and on the front of the engine to come loose.

Please contact the seller with any questions and concerns.
