Description

This is a beautiful 100+ year old spoon done for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (P.P.I.E.) in San Francisco, CA. The Expo was in celebration of the completion of the Panama Canal, and ran from March 2, 1915 until December 4, 1915.

The photos of the spoon are your best reference, but here's a brief description of what you're viewing. The handle consists of two, back-to-back, elongated letter Ps, one of which is reversed to give a more balanced composition. Toward the top of the handle, again for a balanced composition, are a pair of California poppies, the state flower of California. Within the loops formed by the two Ps are maps of the eastern & western hemispheres and the finishing touch is the representation of the California Grizzly Bear atop the two Ps. The descenders of the two Ps extend down into the bowl of the spoon, where they're flanked by the letters I and E - the initials for the expo, PPIE - and the year, 1915. I think it's an inventive & interesting design solution that's also pleasing in its symmetry.

A terrific addition to your - or someone else's - sterling spoon collection, the spoon measures 5.25" from the tip of the bowl to the tip of the handle. The bowl is 2" long by 1.125" - 1 & 1/8" - wide at its widest point. It is marked "STERLING" and "PAT. 1914" on the back of the handle, but bears no other clues to the manufacturer of the spoon.

All in all, the spoon is in very good condition with a bit of wear that's consistent with its age.

Processing time for this item will be brief; I like to get my orders shipped within 48 hours, typically using Priority Shipping via the USPS.

Also, please note that I DO NOT currently ship outside the United States.
