Description

Let's hear it for the human heart! It pumps your blood, keeps you alive, and provides inspiration for some funky artwork.

This painting is based on an ekg (ecg) showing a heart rhythm called Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular rate, or AFib-RVR. (But I do them freehand, and it's art, not a medical illustration, so it may be a tad wonky). Highly dramatic in multiple shades of bright, bleeding red.

My ekg paintings are made in a multi-step process. First, I draw a grid on the paper with pencil. Then I draw in the ekg line using masking fluid, (kind of like runny rubber cement). When that's dry, I paint over it in stripes of watercolor which I let bleed together. After it's all dry, I remove the mask and erase the lines. Each piece is unique and handpainted and based on actual patient ekgs.

Overall size 11 x 25 inches. The edges of the painting are hand-torn and it's mounted on extra-heavy (300lb) Arches watercolor paper and framed in a simple, classic black wooden frame with glass. (I removed the glass for the photos)

Perfect for the office, lab, over the coffeemaker, or as a gift for that special someone who makes your heart beat in perfect time.
