Description

Another fantastically funky Found Candle for your beeswax burning consideration. This clearly handmade ceramic piece features a beautiful display of earth-toney blues, from gray to green, with some burnt orangey highlights. It seems to be stamped with a rustic leaf pattern all around the top half, leaving a deep imprint which is as much eye candy as it is textile stimulation; A one off beauty to behold, hold, and burn.

This high gloss ceramic candle cup is thick, heavy, and not quite round. It measures about 3.5 inches tall, 3 inches wide, and holds about 8 ounces of wax. You can expect over 25 hours of burn time with good burning practices (see our Candle Care tips below). This piece appears to be etched on the bottom with the maker's name, though it's hard to make out what that name is exactly.

Wear & Tear | The ceramic is in excellent condition, with the exception of some very minor hard chalky residue adhering to the bottom which we couldn't quite scrape off.

This is a one of a kind Found Candle: Once it's gone, that's it.

|| Know What's in Your Candle ||

This candle is made from beeswax and organic coconut oil, with an untreated cotton wick which we primed ourselves with beeswax and coconut oil. The beeswax used for this candle is from Washington State and has a sweet and slightly spicy scent.

NO paraffin NO artificial colors NO artificial fragrance JUST good stuff

|| Your Candle's Scent ||

The candle itself has that characteristic sweet honey scent of natural beeswax coupled with a hint of coconut from the virgin coconut oil. The burning scent of this candle is typical of unfragranced beeswax candles: mildly sweet honey. You most likely won't notice the coconut scent while burning, and may not notice any scent, depending on the size of the room.

We do not add any fragrance to our candles, so don't expect your typical heavily perfumed candle shop candle smell.

|| What is a Found Candle? ||

As the name suggests, the containers for our Found Candle collection have been found by yours truly. We scour local thrift shops, antique boutiques, and even garage sales to find funky wax containment for our shop.

These are all one off pieces, aside from the occasional found set, and once they're sold, that's it. We think of them as Found Candle Art Pieces.

These are all used objects and occasionally have some wear and tear which we always do our best to clearly display and point out in our photos.

|| Found Container Safety ||

We do our best to choose only containers that should safely house a burning candle. However, these are re-purposed containers and, even with brand new candle holders, breakage is always a possibility.

Only burn your candle in areas free from combustible materials and keeping in mind that if the container should break, wax will spill.

In our many years of burning, we've yet to have a candle container break and spill, but the possibility (however remote) is always there.

FAQs

Candle burning, like candle making, is a bit of an art, and your candles will burn best if you follow the following tips. But of course it's your candle, so do what you want.

Trim your wick to approximately 1/4 inch after each use.

Candles burn best in a draft-free environment.

Burn your candle long enough to create a wax pool the width of, or nearly the width of your candle's container to ensure maximum candle life. This is especially important for the initial burn. Short burns will result in tunneling.

If your candle does tunnel and the flame becomes weak, carefully pour out the excess wax.

When possible, snuff your candle flame by quickly dipping the wick into the surrounding wax pool, ensuring the wick pops back out.
We hand make all of our candles ourselves, however the Found Candle accouterments in our shop have been 'found' in thrifts shops, boutiques, garage sales, etc.

We use our nifty finds as inspiration to create a candle that will perfectly pair with said nifty find. Many of our found objects were intended for candle burning, and many were not. Either way we try to create a combo that will burn splendidly (and a little funkily too).

Since our candle accompaniments are used, there is typically some degree of wear and tear and we always do our best to catch anything 'major' in the photo shoot as well as describe these blemishes in the listings.

Candles from our Glass Candle and Tin Candle section are in new, not found, containers.
There are many other candle wax options available. And most of them are far less expensive than beeswax. We choose beeswax for our home, and our shop, because this is the cleanest burning and most environmentally friendly material we could find.

Beeswax is believed to actually cleanse the air of pollutants and may improve the symptoms of certain respiratory ailments.

By using beeswax we support the beekeeping industry which is essential to keeping bee colonies alive and healthy. Without bee pollination, human food production might just fail.
Your purchase will come neatly wrapped to avoid breakage, packaged inside a cardboard box hand stamped with our custom stamps. Most Found Pillar Sets will ship in a USPS Flat Rate box, also hand stamped with our custom set.

While we don't offer gift-wrapping per se, this makes for a funky gift box and we will happily include a personal note from you when requested: simply convo us with your note, or let us know during checkout in the "Note to WaxingMoonshine" box.

Each package will contain our business card, which includes candle care suggestions.
Many items in our shop ship for a $3.75 flat fee within the US. Add as many of these items to your cart as you'd like, and shipping is still just $3.75.

Oversize and overweight items will ship for more and the prices for these items will be calculated by Etsy. We do ship internationally; Contact us if your country is not listed.

We ship quick as customer service is important to us. Expect your candle to be in the mail within 24 hours of purchase (excluding Sundays and USPS holidays).

We use USPS First Class for all light weight items and USPS Priority Mail for heavier orders. Fist Class shipping can be upgraded to Priority mail for an additional fee when requested - contact us for details.
Paraffin wax is an oil industry by-product. And not something we recommend anyone burn up and release into the air they breath.

While soy wax is much cleaner and more 'natural' than paraffin wax, it is still far from a natural product. Soy wax is solvent extracted, typically from genetically modified (GMO) soy and often mixed with other additives to create a better burning wax.

Palm wax can actually be very cleanly produced without the use of chemicals. But, when researching this wax it became clear that sustainability is a major issue and that the regulating agencies which determine whether the wax is being sustainably harvested, aren't truly regulating the industry.
Enjoy your candles while burning and do not leave them unattended.

Candle containers may get very hot, so ensure that your candle is resting on a heat resistant surface.

Burn your candles on a flat surface away from any combustible materials. Be especially careful about the area directly above your candle.

Non metal candle containers can crack from heat and spill the wax within. Keep this in mind when placing your candle. While this is very unlikely, it is still a possibility.

Keep your candles out of reach of children and pets.
Customer Service is a major priority for us when is comes to our two Etsy shops (we also sell organic skincare @EmpireSquid).

If you have any questions about anything in our shop, simply send us a conversation through Etsy and we'll get back to you within 24 hours (barring the birth of a child or some other, major delaying factor!).

If you've purchased a candle and need any help at all using your new candle (there is a bit of an art to a perfect beeswax burn), simply send us a conversation and we'll reply within 24 hours.

We strive to create a positive experience for our customers and are proud of our customer service. Cause, you know how it is, if you're happy, we're happy.
