Description

Measures: 8" tall X 6 1/2" diameter

A very - beautiful and unique Burmese Glass vase made by the Fenton Art Glass Company of Williamstown - West Virgina that is in excellent condition with no chips - breaks or cracks.

The vase is decorated with a unique under-water scene that features a seahorse - shells - starfish - plants - sand and a net. Interestingly enough - the net is slighly raised relief painted with small glittery particles that are subtle but add just an extra bit of special to the decoration.

It was hand painted by Fenton artist Dianna Barbour and is signed and numbered 444/950 on the base and has the original Fenton Glass sticker. Please see image 5.

This vase has the characteristic opaque glass with color tones ranging from pink to yellow and was named "Burmese Glass" - after Queen Victoria commented that the colors characteristic off the glass reminded her of the sunsets in Burma.

Art glass collectors invest in Burmese glass for several reasons - it is beautiful - historically significant and it's difficult for modern glass companies to produce. Difficult to produce because it requires materials that are - very - if not almost impossible to access and that has made even the more modern pieces - such as ours - to be highly - sought and valuable.

I am almost sure of this - I believe Fenton is the only American Glass company to make Burmese glass past 1970.
