These blue skull earrings with pink accenting are a fun way to celebrate Halloween or the Day of Dead in a girly ghoulish way! The sugar skulls are pretty Czech glass beads in a lovely shade of light blue, with pink metallic accenting for the eyes, nose, and mouth. In the tradition of sugar skulls, the eyes are designed like flower blooms. The nose is given a sweet and whimsical touch, represented by an inverted heart shape.

To complement the pink accenting, I chose semi-transparent pink and white Czech glass rondelle beads (3x5mm) for the earring design. A little sparkle also seemed appropriate for these dressy skulls, so I added small clear Swarovski crystals too (made in Austria; 3mm, 4mm). Also included with this eye-catching pair are sterling silver petalled bead caps, TierraCast silver-on-pewter daisy spacers (made in the USA), and sterling silver earrings hooks. The latter come with clear ear stoppers (aka ear guards) to help keep these pretty sugar skulls more secure on your ears.

The design here is a classical stack, with the skulls are the focals. On each pin, one bead-capped sugar skull is framed by a split pair of the Czech rondelles. At the very bottom is the small Swarovski crystals, and at the very top is a daisy spacer and another rondelle. I ornamented the sterling hooks with the larger (4mm) crystals to add an extra elegant touch to the pair.

The sugar skull beads are about 3/4 of an inch in length. The earrings themselves are approximately 2 inches long, including the earrings wires. Please see my photos for a measurement picture showing the earrings alongside a ruler and with a coin for relative size comparison.

These blue and pink-accented sugar skull earrings are lovely way to celebrate Halloween and festivities of the Day of Dead, or Dia de los Muertos. They are girly goth while having affinities with the boho style. The pair was handmade by me with care, though, and best wishes for their destined wearer. They come on a PrettyGonzo card and in a nice organza bag, all ready for gifting to someone special—perhaps yourself!

A Brief Word About the Day of the Dead

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is traditionally celebrated in Mexico and Central America at the beginning of November to honor one's ancestral spirits, which are believed to return to their homeland at that time. Whereas symbols of death such as the skull are typically considered grim and forbidding, this celebration finds a measure of joy in the belief that the dead have returned, and so the skull becomes a more approachable icon of tribute and temporary reunion, used as decoration, in costumes (especially masks), and for the shape of breads and candies offered to the returning spirits. Flowers are also important for the Day of the Dead, especially the marigold, and add festive color to decorated graves and homemade altars. There is much more to this celebration, which has become more well known and popular in other countries, but I hope this brief introduction has been helpful.

Yes, I am always happy to accept a custom order! Whether or not I require a deposit, full amount, or neither will depend on the nature of the order. I have done a number of such orders elsewhere with no deposit or purchase required, as I knew I could simply add those items to my inventory if the customer decided not to purchase.
