British Historical Medal By Jean Dassier

Portrait Medal Of King Edward IV

This white metal medal measures just over 1.1/2 inches (41mm) in diameter and is in very fine condition.
It was struck in the 1730s period and is very collectable. Usually found in bronze this is quite scarce in white metal.

Signature: Obverse, below tranche: I•D•F

Inscription: Obverse: (in margin) EDOUARD•IV•D•G• ANG•FR•ET•HIB•REX•; reverse: (below monument) NAT•1441•COR•20•JUN•/ 1461•MORT•9•APRIL•/ 1483•

Information - This medal of Edward IV belongs to the English Monarchs series by the Swiss medalist Jean Dassier (1676–1763). Dassier was the chief engraver of the Geneva mint, and the group to which this medal belongs are among his most important medallic works, part of a series of 33 medals of the English sovereigns begun during his second stay in London, (1731 - 1732) and approved by Queen Caroline. These medals represent an important European medalist in one of his most significant series.

A nice historic medal fully guaranteed to be genuine and authentic.

EDWARD IV - Edward IV (28 April 1442 – 9 April 1483) was the King of England from 4 March 1461 until 3 October 1470,[ and again from 11 April 1471 until his death in 1483. He was the first Yorkist King of England. The first half of his rule was marred by the violence associated with the Wars of the Roses, but he overcame the Lancastrian challenge to the throne at Tewkesbury in 1471 to reign in peace until his sudden death. Before becoming king, he was 4th Duke of York, 7th Earl of March, 5th Earl of Cambridge and 9th Earl of Ulster. He was also the 65th Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
