Beautiful rare Blue Diamond Mine Turquoise Slab, brilliant blue windows with smokey swirl matrix of characteristic black chert measuring a an impressive 88 x 50 x 14 mm a total of (325 carats), natural and untreated, Blue Diamond Turquoise is one of the hardest natural turquoise, therefore will never be stabilised. This is a wonderful slab displaying all the unique characteristics of this rare Turquoise.


**A smaller slab of Diamond Mine turquoise is also available (141 carats), pictured with large slab.

HISTORY
The Blue Diamond mine, located in the central Nevada Papoose area, opened in the late 1950's and was mined up to 1980. This mine is considered a hat mine, of which there are very few. A hat mine is a small deposit of turquoise that, 'you can cover with your hat.

A Rare deep blue Turquoise producing mine in Nevada, Blue Diamond was mined mostly in the 60's and 70's.

The Blue Diamond mine, located in central Nevada, opened in the late 1950's and was mined up to 1980. The stones that this mine produces, which are usually large pieces in plate form, looks a great deal like Stormy Mountain turquoise because of its black smokey matrix. This stone features dark smoky matrix surrounded by a brilliant blue. The characteristic black chert is ever-present. Colours can vary to a mixture of blue and green.

The mine is buried under thousands of tons of rock. One miner continues to dig on a small scale (hat mine) . Largest production was in the 70's; Joe Morris used a bulldozer to uncover small and large plate formations. Some pieces were a foot long and two inches thick.
