Description

Did the ancient Greeks teach their children the alphabet via colorful artwork and clever rhymes? If they did, it’s likely they created those early abcderiums in mosaic, an art form that dates back as far as the golden age of Greece.
Regardless of whether his forefathers in art used mosaics for celebrating the alphabet, mosaic artist Jim Bowen has recently completed the task: twenty-six 14-x-14-inch mosaics, each illustrating a different letter, combined with verses by Mr. Bowen’s wife, Debbie, to create “My Mosaic Alphabet Book", which challenges young readers to learn new words and explore new places.

"My Mosaic Alphabet Book is a whimsical, engaging and educational book for all ages. Each page is a learning adventure captured through a beautiful mosaic picture for each letter of the alphabet. A "Masterpiece Poem", or poem that paints a clear picture in your mind, is written in rhyme for every mosaic page. My Mosaic Alphabet Book is my new coffee table book for all to enjoy."

"My Mosaic Alphabet Book will delight the youngest in a family, humor the adults as well as entertain and educate everyone in between. The 26 pages of mosaic scenes invite you to touch each colorful bit of stained glass and all the nooks and crannies in between. Art teachers and writing teachers (K-12) will appreciate MMAB for the rich visuals and language. Each page holds a kaleidoscope of colors and objects accompanied by text filled with enriching nouns and verbs. Animals and places - ordinary and exotic - pepper the pages of the clearly photographed mosaics."

retired elementary classroom teacher, inclusion teacher, gifted & talented teacher

"My copy of Jim and Debbie Bowman's book arrived today and what a treat. The book is so well imagined. Each page is a wonderful artwork in and of itself. Debbie's poems are the icing on the cake - her words made me giggle and took me to unexpected places. The characters - human and animal - are magical personalities. Thank you Jim and Debbie, a must have addition to any library."
