The Day of the Dead is one of the most famous Mexican holidays and widely celebrated in Tucson. It is a holiday when people remember dead members of their family. A calavera, or skull, is the most famous symbol of the holiday. A calaca is a figure of a skull wearing human clothes. Calacas are considered joyous characters and are frequently represented as dandies and the image of a costumed female dandy (Catrina) with a skeleton face has become associated with the Day of the Dead.

The onyx pendant created by the artists at Voz Jewelry portrays a smiling Catrina typical of Day of the Dead. Both the labradorite and glass beads in this necklace are slightly iridescent and give the necklace an unusual look. Black seed beads and sterling silver findings complete the effect. The necklace is 18 ½ inches long and weighs approximately 1 ounce.
