Description

I created this unique necklace using a variety of components. The center piece is 5 links that were created by PMC artist, Jane Levy. The links are varisous shapes and sizes, inside is antique bronze fiigree/etched pieces that are surrounded by PMC. I attached the links with sterling silver twisted jump rings. The center piece measures 7 1/4" long.

Then on each side of the center PMC links I added a larger sterling silver twisted jump ring and unique antique bronze chain. It closes with a stamped unique sterling silver lobster clasp.

This necklace measures 22 1/2" long.

Very unique and interesting necklace.

Here is some information I found on the internet about the artist,  Jane Levy: "Jane Levy is a Senior Instructor of Art Clay. She has taught workshops and certification classes in Art Clay throughout the United States. Jane received her BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been published in both magazines and books, and has won various awards for her artwork. Jane truly enjoys teaching and has taught art for the past 30 years. Jane says, "One of the most exciting things about silver clay is that you can incorporate it into any art or craft such as fiber, glass, and ceramics. You name it, and Art Clay can embellish it…and in the process makes your artwork much more unique!""

Here is also an explanation of PMC :"PMC stands for Precious Metal Clay and is made up of finely ground silver held together by an organic binder.  This silver is .999 and is one of the purest of its form.  PMC has the consistency of a clay and can be rolled out, hand formed, and easily take in textures while wet or carved into when it is dry. After the PMC is dry, there is usually some finishing needed by applying very fine sandpaper to smooth any rough edges. The pieces are then fired in a small kiln at 1650 degrees for two hours.  When the pieces come out of the kiln they appeared as a mat silver. Each piece is then scrubbed with a steel brush to bring in some of the shine to the silver.  The pieces are then tumbled in a solution with steel shot to bring the shine to the silver and completely clean the piece.  Other finishing includes soldering of jump rings which then requires a final tumbling.  At this point the piece is finished unless oxidation is applied as part of the design. "
