Brass Dagger Earrings Minimalist Earrings Contemporary Jewelry
Description
In restraint there is power. These brass dagger earrings represent a fine balance between strength and elegance, intensity and grace. Entirely handmade from raw metal, not cast by the hundreds. I sawed, sanded, filed, drilled and polished these earrings. The surface has beautiful file marks to add texture and to contrast with the angled point which I brought up to 12,000 grit mirror finish. The perfect combination of demure nature with a bit of edge. They look resplendent with my brass dagger necklace seen here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/155467597/minimalist-necklace-brass-dagger-pendant?ref=shop_home_feat_2

CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY
All jewelry should be taken off before surfing/showering/swimming/exercising.
I do not lacquer most of my pieces for three reasons. Having worked in fine art conservation for ten years I have come to a few conclusions. Toxic sealants are just that, toxic. Lacquer is one of the worst. I don't like the way it changes the nature of the metal's surface, it looks like plastic in the end and if the lacquer is slightly scratched, the entire piece needs to be treated with solvents to remove the remaining lacquer in order not to see the very obvious tarnished scratch.
My philosophy is that metal should have a life and patina just like us and should be maintained, just like us.
ALUMINUM
One of my favorite metals as it doesn't tarnish. The shine may dull over time due to body oils, sunscreen, etc. Just wash gently with dish detergent and wipe with a soft cloth to dry. If more aggressive cleaning is needed you can gently rub the piece with a mixture of dish detergent and baking soda. Bon Ami or Bar Keeper's Friend are good alternatives. Do not use Comet.
BRASS
Raw brass will oxidize naturally but can be brought back to a high shine with a gentle rub of lemon and water, then rinse and dry with soft cloth. Polishing with a super soft/high grit nail buffer or micro mesh will also work as well as a traditional jewelry polishing cloth. I like Birks made in London and Cape Cod brands. A mixture of dish detergent and baking soda gently rubbed on the piece with your fingers also works beautifully. Bon Ami or Bar Keeper's Friend are good alternatives. Do not use Comet.
COPPER
Same as brass
STEEL
Clean with a dry cloth only. Water may trigger rust to form. If spots develop, gently rub surface with fine steel wool or super soft/high grit nail buffer or micro mesh.
STAINLESS STEEL
Clean with dish detergent and water with a soft rag. Dry immediately.
PATINATED METAL
If you purchased one of my patinated copper or brass pieces this surface is rather delicate and should not be rubbed in any way. I have sealed the patina with a metal sealant but care should be taken in its handling. Do not store with other metal items or anything that could scratch the patina.
STERLING | GOLD FILLED OR SOLID STERLING
Sterling Silver filled components can be cleaned with a baking soda and water poultice, toothbrush and toothpaste or a jewelry cleaner specifically for sterling silver. For Gold components, use dishwasher liquid and water or gold jewelry cleaner.
GOLD LEAF
Gold leaf is very fragile and should be handled with care. Do not store with other metal jewelry as the gold leaf can easily be scratched. Do not rub the gold leaf with anything and of course, do not swim, shower or exercise while wearing any gold leafed item.
