Description

This is a collection of three vintage spice containers, culled from my Mom's spice rack. So much for replacing those spices every six months...

First, a paperboard container of Grayslake Gelatin, circa 1929. The dimensions of the container are 2.375" (2 & 3/8") wide by 4" tall by 1.875" (1 & 7/8") deep. There's still gelatin inside the container, if that's important to you. I assume that this belonged to my Great-Grandma, not sure how it came to be in our spice rack otherwise. In excellent condition, with just a bit of the oxidation/discoloration you'd expect on the metal of a container that dates from the period.

Next, a container - all metal - of fennel seed. There's an "A 37" stamped on one side of the tin, best guess is that it stands in for the date code that we see on packaging today. I'm guessing April (or August), 1937, although I don't know that for certain. The can is pristine overall, with some oxidation/discoloration of the tin's top.

Finally, an all-metal container of IGA (Independent Grocers Alliance) Curry Powder. I remember my Mom making shrimp curry once when I was really little, the aroma of curry filled the house. For all I know, this is the same container she used for that recipe, circa 1965. The price stamped on the bottom of the tin - 17¢ - leads me to believe that it's at least 50 years old, if not older. This tin, being the newest, is in the best condition, and the curry powder smells great, BTW. Don't know that I'd use it, but it smells just like it's supposed to and reminds me of that long-ago meal that Mom prepared.

The price listed is for all three containers.
