This beautiful brooch was recovered from an estate sale. Amongst these beautiful finds was a series of Russian tole brooches. What is tole? This is an art of one stroke hand painting that creates beautiful flowers, scrolls and filigree edging. This art is traditionally done by hand and with oil paint which is than lacquered to give the art a beautiful shine or lasting finish. This art has been around for hundreds of years and is passed from one apprentice to another, this art decorates wearable art jewelry, tea cups , trays etc.
This piece is a brooch with a beautiful dark black background with a bouquet of beautiful multi colored flowers in dark bright fuchsia, yellow with green leaves. Flower portrait is finished with gold scrolling on the edge of portrait with marble edging. I believe the portrait canvas to be made of wood. Brooch is a wide round shape, back of brooch is black with gold signature of artist. Brooch has a safety pin closure embedded in the portrait base and the pin is a little bent but is still in great wearable condition. So beautiful!! definitely one of a kind.
Brooch Size: 2 1/2 inches width. Almost 6 inches round.
