Description

ANTIQUE POTTERY COCKATOO MUG - Probably from the MORTON POTTERY CO. - American Collectible From 1880 - 1915.

I wish this was a marked piece. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! The closest that I have come to identifying it is by comparing it to a "Leaf Mug" made by the Morton Co in the 1880's. This mug was listed on Ebay in 2001 and the bid started at $19.95...remember this was 2001! The pictures of this leaf mug show the exact same seam lines and the results of the crude molds used in the handle area of my Cockatoo Mug. The Morton Pottery Co. of Morton Ill., was in business from 1880 - 1915. Google Morton Pottery…it is an interesting story. I printed the pictures of the Leaf Mug and will send them along with your purchase.

The mug is 5 inches tall and the base diameter averages 3 1/8 inches (it is crude and uneven). The mouth is 3 1/4 inches in diameter. THERE ARE NO CRACKS and NO CHIPS. I took a close-up photo of the top of the handle, where it was attached, it order to give you a feeling for the crude molds used over 100 years ago. What might appear to be a crack where the handle attaches, both on the top and bottom, is just the crude finish by the potter. Similarly, the seam lines for the mug's mold are also pronounced: even under the heavy glaze they are easily seen. I particularly love the base, where the glaze was not applied…the base really shows the age!

My price is $38.00 and shipping will be $10.00.

I gladly refund any shipping charges that exceed the postage and money spent on boxes and packing materials. Of course, I will combine orders to create larger refunds. Your purchases will be shipped within 3 working days.
