Make your own Journal Sleeve - a fun and useful storage solution for your journal, planner, or notebook without covering it up! There's both a roomy zipper pocket and a pen pocket to keep the essentials handy when you are away from your desk. Slip it onto the front cover and fill it up with your favorite pens, washi tape, sticky notes, stickers, a straight edge ruler, page flags, etc., and you will always be good to go!

The best part? The pattern includes a very simple customization worksheet that allows you to make a Journal Sleeve perfectly sized for YOUR journal, planner, or notebook. It just needs to be 5-8 inches wide and 7-11 inches long with a somewhat rigid cover and a stiff spine. I'm partial to the Leuchtturm1917, the Filofax A5 Notebook, and standard composition notebooks - all different sizes! My pattern tester, Katie, made Journal Sleeves for her Moleskin Cahiers. There are so many great options!

I wrote the Journal Sleeve pattern with the confident beginner sewist in mind. I took extra care to describe each step in detail and included a color photo for nearly every step to make things super clear.

Because this pattern consists of over 70 photos with detailed step-by-step instructions, I recommend you only print the 2-page customization worksheet. If you like hard copies of your patterns, I’ve also included a text only version you can print without using up all of your ink.

If you are a journal lover like me, you may already know that writing things down in longhand, as opposed to documenting things with a keyboard, may actually force us to process information more thoroughly which helps our brains retain information. After returning to a partly longhand life recently, I can wholeheartedly attest to this! Now, I use journals and notebooks in a variety of ways and I've enjoyed making Journal Sleeves for each one! I've also found that Journal Sleeves are perfect for gifting!
