I adore St. John Knits and when I found this brooch in the colors of autumn at an estate sale, I immediately recognized the signature logo on the reverse. I know that St. John has famously used their logo enameled buttons and has added enamel and rhinestone pins to their knit clothing several times over the decades, so I am not able to say how old this piece actually is. From the "flashy" appearance, it is likely from the 1980s when everything was totally accessorized.

This floral style brooch has an entire new life to look forward to as a magnetic back brooch. It was always a stunning eye catcher and now it is even more versatile and wearable.

As you can tell from the photos, the four coral autumn-color flower petals are accented in the center by numerous large aurora borealis coated rhinestones in various sizes. This brooch is big, bold, beautiful and is bound to draw compliments.

This piece is vintage and therefore, quite unusual and always compelling. Because it is vintage, there are a few signs it was lovingly worn in the past. For lovers of vintage, as I am, that fact only adds to their appeal and does not detract from their wearability. If you have questions about the status of any of the listed items, please ask me.

The size of the vintage brooch is approximately 2 inches at the widest points. It also has quite a three-dimensionl quality, which I tried to capture with the photos. At the center it is approximately 3/4 inches deep.

Of course, with its new magnetic back, this brooch can be worn as a brooch or scarf clip or even to decorate a hat.

If you want to see more photos, send me a message and I will be happy to forward additional details to you.

Please look over the other magnetic back brooches that I have listed on my site. Many of them would make a stunning companion for the type of versatlie necklaces I have listed. Or if you already own any vintage brooches or even earrings that you would like to have me convert to wear with a necklace like this, contact me to find out if that will work out for you.

If this is your first foray into magnetic back brooches, welcome to the exquisite world of magnetic back brooches. These are an innovative, stylish and secure way to keep your brooch where ever you want it to be! No more pins to fumble with or pinholes to ruin your clothes or scarves. Magnetic brooches can be used as accents on clothing, scarves, hats and handbags. Let your imagination be your guide.

Even better, you will notice that many of the brooches are actually vintage pieces recycled for the modern era, so you can feel "green" and gloriously beautiful at the same time.

Quality neodymium rare earth Magnetic Fasteners are used on the back of each brooch as opposed to the traditional pin clasp. Magnetic fasteners will not damage or put holes in your clothing. A super–strong magnet will keep your brooch attached to virtually any type of clothing, from denim to suede, wool, leather, and silk. These brooches will not come off until you remove them.

Each magnetic fastener is selected based on the design and size of the brooch. Consequently various sizes, strengths or shapes may be used. The magnetic fasteners hold equally well on light thin fabrics, medium fabrics such as a wool jacket and heavy fabrics such as a leather coat. An exception to this are the very small round magnets used on the smallest brooches. These generally will hold well on all fabrics except very thick materials such as a leather coat or a sweater.
The magnetic backs are easy to use:
• With your thumb, PUSH and SLIDE the top magnet off the bottom magnet. (DO NOT try to pull them apart because they are too strong.) Remember to always SLIDE.
• Position your brooch anywhere convenient on top of your clothing and place the removed magnet beneath your garment and in back of the top magnet. Make sure you have the color-coded portion of the back magnet on the outside of the back. The 2 portions of the magnets will immediately bond together to create a secure attachment.
• When you are ready to remove the brooch, remember to use the same technique you used to put it on. Always SLIDE the bottom magnet off.

CAUTION: If you are pregnant or wear a pacemaker, please consult your physician before wearing any jewelry containing magnetic parts. Keep magnets away from children and items that can be affected by magnets such as credit cards, computers and pacemakers.
