Strum Fun Getar by Mattel, Inc. Toymakers – this toy from the cowboy heyday used to have plastic colored discs that fit into the back of it to make it “play” music-box style when the strumming lever was moved up and down. This one is missing its discs.

Box is in reasonable shape, no water damage, some wear to the edges and where the top and bottom tuck together, some scuffs and splotches. Missing the internal pocket that once held the discs.

Guitar/Getar itself is in mediocre shape with some of the silver decoration rubbed off from use, no strings, tiny crack at top of sounding hole, small yellow tab that helped hold in the music discs partially broken off inside the back hollow. Fake wood paper layer is slightly peeling up in one spot, could probably be glued, some black scribbling. Missing the small plastic rods that held the strings at the top. In need of some appreciative TLC.

“Strumming” lever moves fine, would be easy to restring for use as a prop or standard plucking toy. Guitar measures 20” long.

The back shows a cartoon cowboy and instructions for how to make it play with the music discs. The side of the box is labeled ‘Stock No. 655” and “1959 Mattel Inc. Hawthorne California.” Front advertises “Matty’s Funday Funnies ABC-TV”.
