sterling wire, sterling silver wire wrap, fortification agate

This pendant features a striking red, black and white agate. It measures 2.74 x 1.38 inches (69.8 x 35.1 mm) and is set in sterling silver.

Agate is a gem known for its incredible range of colors and patterns. Since early prehistory it has been recognized as a tough material excellent for crafting into tools, and also as an ornamental stone appreciated for its beauty.

This piece is a great example. It shows a striking mixture of colors and patterns. At the edges it shows a smooth, flowing mixture of red and white. Inside that is a layer of spiky, crystalline black, and at the very center is a beautiful, lacy fortified white. Unfortunately I don't know where this agate came from or what its specific variety is--we bought it as a rough stone from a large pile of mixed Mexican and Texas agates of various sorts. I've never seen another piece of rough for sale or a cut example, so it may be a totally unique variety! We only have a few cabochons cut from it and when we run out we can't get more.

This stone was custom-cut for me by Lenny of JBDjewelry. As always it is perfectly cut and artistically composed. You can see more of his cutting work, and his wife's exquisite wire wrap, at their Etsy site: jbdjewelry.etsy.com

The item will be mailed in a priority mail flat-rate box to buyers in the US. Canadian and other international shipping is through US first class international mail.
