Description

This is a wonderful blue vintage Auburn rubber truck with yellow wheels. The plate on the back of the truck
reads 508. The bottom has Auburn, Made in the U.S.A. on it.

It is clean, but has some stains. Overall it is in good condition and is still flexible. There are a few very small cracks on the truck. There are a few cracks in the tires but they are also still soft and flexible. The metal pieces that are the axels are rusty but does not flake off when touched.

It is 4 1/2" in length, 1 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" at it tallest.

The Auburn Rubber Toy Company began in 1913 as the Double Fabric Tire Corp. By the time the stock market crashed in the 1920s, the company was loosing sales and seemed to be headed for failure. However, with a little luck, ingenuity and foresight they managed to save the business by becoming a toy manufacture, which lead to their name change. While most companies were closing their doors, the Auburn Rubber Toy Company managed to become the largest producer of rubber and vinyl toys in the US.

The first rubber toy that was created by Auburn was the 1938 Cord, which coincidentally was a car that had it's tires supplies by the Double Fabric Tire Corp. Other cars that were produced as toys included Cadillacs, Dords, Oldsmobiles, Plymouths, and many Indianapolis race cars. They also succeeded with the production of tractors, airplanes, ships and truck. As time passed, these unique toy vehicles became detailed, realistic and well designed in a range of colors, shapes and sizes. Not only were they affordable, they were popular with parents because of their durability, cleanliness and safety.

These toys remain popular today and are sought by collectors. They have a wonderful nostalgic appeal that harkens to a time when childhood was filled with simple wonders and great imagination!
