Description

Northern Cardinals are robust, seed-eating birds, with strong bills. The cardinal family is named for the males red plumage colored “cardinal” like the color of a Catholic cardinal's vestments. The cardinal is the state bird of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

Pressing a slab of porcelain clay into a mold made from a low relief positive that I have created makes the tile. The finish is applied with a paintbrush using a series of glazes prior to the tile being fired to cone 6. The male cardinal is two tone black and red gloss glazes. The berries dark blue gloss glaze, and the background is lagoon matte glaze and the branch is chocolate matte glaze and the frame is dark sage matte glaze. The back has a recessed hanger cut into the clay and a square cork pad in each corner. The edges of the tile are glazed. The tile is 3-7/8" square and weighs about 9 ounces.

The tile can be hung outdoors in a frost-free location and indoors in humid locations such as the bathroom or kitchen. The tile works well as a good coaster. The tile can be installed after cork pads are removed.

Item will ship Priority Mail with delivery confirmation within 2 business days of receipt of clear payment. See Payment/Shipping policies for additional information.
