Description

Sometimes inspiration for a new art batt or yarn strikes, and everything else just has to stop. That's what happened when the idea for these art batts struck me. I was thinking about the description of Lothlorien from The Fellowship of the Ring. It was a place at once ancient and new, beautiful and mournful, wild and civilized. That is what I tried to convey in these art batts.

They have several shades of green merino, yellow and green kid mohair locks for texture, silky bronze bamboo and nutmeg brown merino, a bit of regal purple, soft gold muga silk, and the most incredibly soft undyed silver baby alpaca. I can't decide which is softer--the muga silk or the alpaca. I added a generous amount of gold angelina so the whole shimmers just like Lothlorien should.

The last picture shows one of these art batts along with the same Lothlorien colorway in my Buttery Soft DK-weight yarn that I handpainted. Wouldn't it be fun to use the handspun version and the millspun hand-painted version together for a cowl or capelet or as warp and weft in a weaving project?

BATT FACTS
Name: Lothlorien 2.0
Weight: 2 ounces
Contents: 44% merino, 25% alpaca, 10% muga silk, 10% kid mohair locks, 10% bamboo, 1% angelina
Colors: Forest green, spring green, seafoam green, soft gold, bronze, silver, nutmeg brown, royal purple, gold
Carding Style: Layered in thin stripes
Uses: Spinning or Felting

Each batt is shipped to you in a lovely organza drawstring bag to prevent it from getting dusty until you are ready to use it. It also has a label to let you know what it's made of for future reference. This makes a great presentation if you are giving art batts as a gift to your favorite spinner or felter as well.

Also, as a token of my appreciation, I am including your choice of either a sprig of fresh rosemary from my organic garden or a handmade felt ball infused with essential lavender oil with your order. Both of these are natural moth deterrents. I will include one per order. If you would prefer not to have either one, just choose the no scent option.

You can see my other listings at http://www.purplelamb.etsy.com. Also, come see my fiber arts tutorials at http://www.purplelambfiberarts.com, where you can also sign up for my weekly newsletter. The newsletter includes news about Purple Lamb as well as "secret" coupon codes for subscribers only.

Beautiful art batts! I haven't had a chance to spin these up yet, but they arrived super quickly: I placed my order Friday, received an email saying my order had shipped (which I thought was an error because of how soon it was after I'd placed my order), and the batts arrived with the Monday mail. I did NOT pay for expedited shipping; she just got them out that fast.

When I placed my first order, I mentioned that it was my first art batt spin, so I was happy to have found something so beautiful in this price range (most art batts that are this pretty come with much higher price tags, which is intimidating for a first spin). She replied with some suggestions for how to spin the batt. Later, she wrote a blog post on the same topic & sent me a link to that, too (complete with Youtube videos)!

I will definitely be back!

I will definitely be a repeat customer. The customer service was really spectacular and my shipment even came with a personal, handwritten note. This was all in addition to the beautiful art batts she made. Definitely a five-star experience.

Returns and exchange details
My goal is to create something you will love and use for years to come. If you are not satisfied for any reason, please let me know. I offer a full refund for any product within 2 weeks so long as the item comes back to me in its original condition. The buyer is responsible for paying for return shipping.

Shipping policies

I use calculated shipping, so just click on the shipping tab, punch in your postal code, and you can see what it will cost to ship using a variety of different methods. If you purchase multiple items, you will save on shipping overall.

Calculated shipping is usually quite reliable, but once in a while it gets a little wonky. If the shipping cost looks higher than it should be, feel free to contact me before or after the purchase. You can be assured that I will refund the overage if it is more than $1, and I'll do it even if you don't ask.

Unless it's a custom order, I will definitely ship within 1-2 business days, but most of the time I ship the morning after you place your order unless it's a custom order.

FAQs

What's your customer service philosophy?

I am keenly aware of the fact that without my customers, I don't have a business. I do everything in my power to represent my fiber goodies accurately, to ship quickly, to communicate well, and to just take good care of my customers. It seems to be working as I have a lot of repeat customers.

Do you gift wrap?

I package every order as though it is a gift. My yarn comes packaged in tissue paper, and my art batts come in organza bags. Both are placed in boxes, taped like mad, and shipped to you. Because of this, I don't feel like I need to charge you extra for gift wrapping. It's just part of my service.

I'm buying something from your shop for a friend or family member. Can I include a message?

Of course! Just let me know what you want to say in the note to seller, and I will happily include your note in the package.

Do you do custom work?

I am more than happy to make custom yarn and art batts. You can convo me or send me a photo of something you want me to match. When I'm done making it, I'll post it in my shop as reserved for you, and you should only buy it if you love it. If not, just let me know, and I will make it generally available in my shop.

If I see something in your shop that is sold out, can you make it for me?

The answer is a definite maybe. I do make a lot of things that are repeatable, but some of my items are one of a kind. It depends on whether I can get or make the materials for that item. By all means, send me a convo and ask, and if it can be done, I'm happy to do it.

If I order a skein of your yarn and then come back later to get another skein in the same colorway, will it look the same?

Unless they were dyed in the same batch, the different skeins will likely look like they came from different dye lots. If you let me know that you need more to finish a project, I'll do everything I can to match the yarn as closely as possible, but the best option is to be sure to get as much as you need for the project when you order. If you think you might need more than I have in stock, convo me. If I make all the skeins at once, then you know they will match. If worst comes to worst, though, try to save some of the yarn from the first batch when you realize you don't have enough so you can "fade" it into the second batch.

What is the best way to contact you with questions?

The best way to contact me is here on Etsy using the convo button. I check it multiple times a day. If you try to catch me on social media, it can be hit or miss, but you can definitely find me here.
