Description

This listing is for two inert/empty linked 25mm rounds (25x137mm) in mint condition. One round is the tungsten-cored Armor-Piercing Discarding-Sabot Tracer (black projectile) and the other round is the steel-cored Target-Practice Discarding-Sabot (blue projectile). In the early 1960s, the US Army's Bushmaster Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle (MICV) cannon project resulted in, among other things, the Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge TRW-6425 cannon, designed by the late Eugene Stoner of Armalite rifle fame. When Bushmaster was shelved, the European rights to the design were acquired by Oerlikon-Bührle (later Oerlikon Contraves-Pyrotec AG and now RWM Schweiz AG). The company made some improvements and produced it as the Model KBA, developing a range of ammunition to go with it. Since then, the utility of this caliber has been generally recognized, and the Bushmaster project was eventually revived, resulting in the Hughes (now ATK) M242 Chain Gun, which has been used in the M2/M3 Bradley and LAV-25.The GAU-12/U five-barrel rotary gun was developed around this ammunition and, more recently, so has a four-barrel version for the F-35 fighter, the GAU-22/A. Other designers have also developed weapons for this round, notably Giat (now Nexter Systems) of France, with the externally-powered 25M811 which is in service. Two which did not achieve the same kind of success were the Aden 25 revolver and GE 225 twin-barrel guns. The 25x137mm family of ammunition is also used in the OtoMelara Marlin weapon system, and the BAE Mk38 weapon system. Very impressive rounds, in beautiful condition!
