The perfect tree to add to your yard! The Black Cherry Tree is widespread and common in North and South America. This rather large tree sports medium, shiny, dark-green leaves with a paler green underside turning a yellow, orange, red in autumn. Not only is the Black Cherry Tree an attractive, ornamental, shade tree, but it also produces edible fruit! The long, cylindrical, yellow-white blossoms that bloomed in the spring transform into small, round, dark purple to black cherries. The fruit can be used to make jams, jellies and liqueurs or can be left for the wildlife to enjoy. The aromatic fragrance alone is reason enough to add this cherry tree to your landscaping. A Black Cherry Tree is a fast grower and at maturity can be 50'-80' in height with a spread of 30'-60'. Make sure when you plant your tree, you find a sunny area with rich, moist, well-drained soil. Hardiness Zones 3-9.
