This is a perfect gift for a hunter of any kind, and especially for the deer hunter in your life. This work is a wonderful solution to decorate a very special wall in your home, office, even a Hunter's "man cave" because of the subject matter, but even more so because it is a timeless piece of fine art worthy to hang on any wall. It is also a perfect and unique gift for any serious art lover or collector.

"Fresh Sign" is a larger etching of which this is a small portion of that print part of an artist proof I printed as I continue to refine the copper plate before printing an edition. I use the proof to see how the image is progressing after repeated drawing, etching, scraping, burnishing of the copper plate.
After making corrections and additions to the plate, I ink up and reprint it to see if I have accomplished what I set out to do. Creating etchings of any kind for me is a rather lengthy process most of the time and it can take many months to complete a single image. Once I complete the image, I usually print an edition of anywhere from 15 to 75 prints using the finished plate. Each print was created by meticulously inking, wiping and cranking each print through my etching press. So, although there is an "edition" of the same image, each one is an original work of art, not a photographic reproduction.

*This little print is not numbered, but I sign it at the bottom.
*This Print sold un-matted and unframed. Image size is 8 1/2 x 3 1/2.

What is an etching?
It all begins with a thin copper plate that I spent months drawing and etching the image into the plate with acid, lovingly modelling, re-drawing, re-etching, and perfecting the image on the plate until it created the print you now see. Each individual print was created by inking the copper plate, wiping it with tarlaton, placing a piece of damp acid free and buffered fine art paper on top of the plate which is then hand cranked through my etching press. The press helps transfer the inked image from the plate to the paper. The plate is then re-inked and printed for each of prints in the edition.

What inspired me to do this etching?

My husband and I lived in Southern Alabama and at the time he was an avid deer hunter. He hunted with friends and family near Castleberry, Alabama. When I dropped my husband off for the hunt, even though I am not a hunter myself, there was an excitement in the crisp Fall air that early morning that I couldn't explain. But, I could feel the same giddy anticipation the hunters and dogs felt as I was rapidly snapping photos trying to capture moment. These men hunted not for sport, but out of necessity to help feed their families. It was a way of life.

Artist Biography updated Oct 16, 2018

I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a BFA in graphic design in 1985. My primary areas of concentration in college, and in the years to follow, have been Drawing and Printmaking, although I also enjoy working in Pastel and Oil Painting. Over the years I have participated in many outdoor art shows, exhibited my work in local galleries and had my work accepted, exhibited, and awarded in various National Shows across the United States. One of my pastels, “Late Summer afternoon on the LeTort” was printed in a Fly Fishing Book published by Stackpole Books called “Selectivity”, written by a well-known author and fly fishing guide. I was also blessed to have a large color etching displayed in the Augusta National Club House, accepted and sold at the Master’s Golf Tournament from 1992-94. I was very fortunate my “Augusta National, View from Magnolia Lane” color etching was purchased by many patrons from Miami to California, Europe to South Africa as well as from the Far East. Truly humbled and honored, some of my patrons were past Master’s champions.

I enjoyed the opportunity to teach Youth and Adult, Drawing and Printmaking classes at the Danville Community Art Center in KY from 2011 to 2015 until my husband and I moved back to Ohio. We currently reside in Beavercreek, OH where I work full time in my home studio and am excited as I begin putting down roots in the Art community in and around the Dayton area.
