Description

Antique French Art Nouveau Blue Transferware Collection - Clairefontaine Leon Graves - 1894-1913

Four pieces of quintessential blue and white French transferware make up this collection of decorated ironstone.

A beautiful, art nouveau floral design of tulips or perhaps fritillaria, this collection comprises a pedestal compotier, a saucière and two raviers or side dishes.

These were made by the Clairefontaine factory during the time of Leon Graves who was the head of the factory between 1894 and 1913. The backstamp, present on two of the pieces shows the factory's trademark anchor and the initials LG for Leon Graves which allows us to accurately date the pieces.

All are in used condition - over 100 years old - but there are no repairs or cracks. Condition for each piece outlined below.

Compotier: - Some pitting in the centre of the bowl and a very old, darkened chip on the rim. Two 'nibbles' underneath the base rim, not visible from above. The pattern has worn or been missed in production in one or two places but the transfer is still very bright and clear. It measures 9 inches in diameter and stands 3.5 inches high. (23cm and 9.5cm). Not backstamped.

Saucière: The glaze feels slightly rough in places but no faults. Backstamp present. Saucer part measures 10.5 inches and it stands 3.75 inches tall.

Raviers (side Dishes): no. 1: A couple of dark pitted specks in the glaze and some wear to the pattern but otherwise good condition. Backstamp present. 9.5 inches wide.(24cm)
no. 2: Some striations on the surface of the dish which have darkened over time . No backstamp. 9.5 inches wide (24cm)

Please zoom in on the photographs for a better idea of the pieces and the condition - these form part of the description.

Slightly shabby, authentically aged, this collection really has those French chic looks which would go beautifully on a dresser or chest of drawers or even in a bedroom or bathroom.

All the pieces together are quite heavy so please check the shipping costs. If I can pack them safely in a smaller (and lighter) parcel, I will do so and refund the difference in postal charges. The package will be sent with tracking and require a signature on delivery.

Thank you for looking.
