STEINBOCK BROTHERS Studio Enamel Trinket Box
This is an absolutely charming hand made enamel TRINKET BOX hand decorated in stunning cobalt blues and greens. It was created by the Steinbock Brothers studio of Austria some time between 1950 and 1993, leaning to the later years.
It has been beautifully hand crafted from a metal egg shaped box which has been initially overglazed in white enamel. Then fine decorative detail of four Christmas trees (pines) has been added in enamels of cobalt blue, green and 24K gold leaf paint/trim. The trees appear as a creative Christmas tree with their decorative flower, heart, candle and gold spiral patterns.
The box fits snugly together and opens by gently pulling apart the two halves to reveal a bright white perfectly glazed enamel centre.
This collectible piece is signed 'Email Studio Steinbock. Handmade in Austria' and is signed 'Elizabeth'. It is very tactile and beautiful to hold, fitting like a tennis ball in your hand.
The Steinbock Brothers studio produced pieces up until 1993, when it closed, and its art pieces are now highly collectible and hard to find. Email Studio Steinbock was founded by two brothers, Haimo and Hannes Steinbock, in the 1950's. The brothers lived in Carinthia, Austria, and were members of the Academy of Art in Vienna.
This charming box was probably designed as a trinket box but it could be used as a gift box to give a special piece of jewellery. Imagine opening this beautiful box to find another beautiful gift inside.....2 in 1!
Or, it would make a beautiful gift in itself for a Steinbock collector or a lover of beautiful things.......the choice is yours.
There is a very small area of enamel surface wear on an area of cobalt blue on lower half of egg, near the metal lip. It is almost impossible to see, and find, and was only flagged up when I ran my fingertips carefully across the whole egg and noticed a slight change in the feel of the smooth surface. (The wear shows as a blue enamel area slightly darker than the rest). It may have left the studio with this flaw or it may have happened since. It does not detract from the beauty of the box.
