Description

This bowl is a wonderful piece of US Naval history.

TEPCO (Technical Porcelain and China Ware Co) was one of a handful of china manufacturers used by the United States Navy and Merchant Marine from the early 1900's through the 1970's.

This bowl contains the "fouled anchor" insignia which, my research tells me, was used for Wardroom Officers. Apparently the correct name for this insignia is the "fouled fluked anchor" (different insignias were used for different rank). Fouled means the rope is wrapped around the anchor. The flukes are the pointy parts of the anchor that catch the ground.

It is as thick and heavy as specified by the Navy. This is the opposite of fine bone china. Before the turn of the 20th century, military tableware was enameled metal.

So, with that brief introduction to US military tableware, you are now ready to purchase this fine piece of memorabilia for the ex-Naval officer, boat owner, sea lover or pirate in your life. Or if you just want a piece of US history in the form of a serving bowl strong enough for the US Navy.

The bowl is in great condition. No cracks, chips or paint wear.
