This is another shield pendant of a series I think of as "relic pendants".
Backstory:
I was at the British Museum in London, and the museum had recently added a number of artifacts from a find in a farmer's field outside London.
The whole notion of ancient works of art and functional creations floating around in the crust of the earth really got me thinking about these ancient creations by other hands, and how much those forms still are expressed today in the sheer joy of working metals. Much of my work feels guided in some way, by very old expressions of metal. Maybe it's because I like creating metal things using relatively low tech tools.
I had a shield in mind when I made this pendant, but with the twist that it would be worn around the feminine neck. Then I got thinking about the purpose of a shield, and how that would relate to the yearnings of the modern woman.
I invite you to complete the thought process through your own interpretations!
This shield measures about 1" wide by 2 1/2" long, and is made using bronze and sterling silver. I have included an 18" snake chain, but a 16" is available if you desire. I personally prefer the longer length with this, but your call!
