This is a well preserved Coach Swagger Bag. It's creed states it was made in New York City and it bears registration number 035-3812.
The Swagger was one of Coach's most popular bags. This was probably because it carries a lot in a compact sized bag and is designed with organization in mind. This is what Coach had to say back in the day when it listed the Swagger in its catalog:
No. 9820 Swagger $178
This highly functional bag incorporates the most often requested features and is highly favored among our consumers. The 4" width provides ample room, while the taper design keeps it trim. A secure extended top zipper lets you open the bag conveniently wide. Two full-length outside pockets flank both sides and offer instant access to items you want at hand. An inside zipper pocket safely holds the smaller items. Comes with a 44" adjustable shoulder strap. Dimensions 12" x 7 1/2" x 4".
Black, British Tan, Burgundy, Mahogany, Mocha, Navy, Putty, Red, Sandstone, Tabac shown on page 8. Pictured in Navy.
This bag is in excellent used condition. It has no rips, tears, or holes. It was either meticulously maintained or hidden away in a closet somewhere for over 30 years. It has few if any scuffs, scratches or spots. Please view the photos I have posted to see the condition and ask for more if necessary.
Significance of New York City Coach
This Coach leather bag is one of the most sought after Coach products by collectors because it is a "New York City Bag". These are some of the highest quality Coach products. "New York City" bags were made in the original Coach factory in New York City that operated from the late 1960's through the mid 1980's. Consequently, they are disappearing at an alarming rate and when you buy a New York City Coach bag you are buying more than an accessory, you are making a potential investment.
