Description

15x12 high quality, embossed canvas print in black satin wood frame, handcrafted in the U.S. Painting (The Annunciation, 1898) by Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937). Poem (Fiat, 2015) by A.J. Clishem (1958- ).

Fiat presents the Virgin Mary’s “Yes” to her call to become the mother of God. There is nothing weak about her response to the angel—hence her triple “Yes” (one for each person of the Blessed Trinity). Tanner’s painting captures both the strength and humility of the woman who would become the Mother of Jesus. Photo credit, the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Fiat (poem text, © 2015 by A.J. Clishem): Yes to what I fear and/ Cannot comprehend. / Yes to what I hear and/ Do not understand,/ Yes to what is near/ Placed now in your hands.
