Description

Original French Medieval Jeton Which Was Struck Between The Years 1450 and 1500.

It is of copper alloy construction measuring 1 inch in diameter (27mm) and is in very fine condition.
The obverse displays a single masted sailing ship with rigging in the centre with crown above. A Latin legend runs around the edge.
The reverse has a central lozenge containing four fler d'Lys with three pellets to each side. A Latin legend surrounds the edge.

Information - Jetons or Reckoning Counters were widely used in the medieval world as an aid in performing calculations by merchants and royal officials. The counters were placed upon a checkered board or reckoning table to represent amounts or tallies in complex calculations. The word Jeton comes from the French verb jeter, to cast. The checkered board they were placed upon gave it's name to the Exchequers office, still the name given to the government department responsible for taxation and revenues in the United Kingdom.

A nice collectors piece and when you consider its over 500 years old the condition is very pleasing and fully guaranteed to be genuine and authentic.
