Description

Here is a silver and turquoise pendant. Made in the studio of Jim Saunders . Jim is an old veteran silver smith from the 1970 turquoise jewelry boom in Albuquerque. He builds all his jewelry using his knowledge of 40 + years making jewelry and his 40 year on going collection of old metal tools. He loves old anvils and old stamps and old hammers.Retooling and re-shapping and or repurposing them for his unique use and style.
This piece is hand made in Jim's studio starting with cutting the stone..The stone is the center of the piece of jewelry and when completed and is cut to show each stones full potential to its unique look that nature gives it. Jim does not compromise its shape to predetermined jewelry standard cuts and shape..just tooooo commercial looking when done, instead he lets the stone determine its final shape or cut. Each stone has a maximum color and pattern and shape in it...and Jim uses his 45 years of cutting stones to be able to figure that out.. Jim lets each stone develop into its own shape.Even the very texture on the surface of each stone has Jim's attention....its not about just shinning up a pretty stone...that is easy..!!!! Most stones have a natural texture that can get lost in just shining up a pretty stone...Texture in a stone takes a special eye to detail that gives Jim's pieces their total uniqueness. I hope you agree...!!!!
In building the piece of jewelry it starts from silver sheet and wire and ingot silver, Jim forms and forges by hand to get into the shape you see. Being as each piece is totally hand made and formed..they are not perfect as machine made is, each has its own unique character. Jim does not use the very commercial tools that mimic machine made in his studio, that have become easily available in recent years....tools that do all the work for you that take away individual skill ....instead he develops the actual tools and tooling and the skill...Much like a shrunk down version of the old time Black smith where every thing was made on the anvil and hand formed and even the tools were hand formed on the anvil and Jims are today...
in this pendant Jim likes to keep the stone as the center of Attention and thus a very classy simple yet complex setting showing the stone to its fullest

The Black cord is not included...!!!!!!!....Just a prop to show the pendant on... if you need a leather cord or Sterling chain..I have these available...just ask....in the future I will be posting my hand made chains also....Which look great on my pendants...!!!
