This is a Coach Diplomat style briefcase in Black Leather. It is a more formal style Coach than the soft leather bags like the Lexington, Prescott or Essex. This style is comprised of a hard body case, flap over closure and brass combination lock, This particular briefcase has creed stamp number K4F-5353 which means it was manufactured in 1994. The creed states it was made in the U.S.A. This Style list was featured as a 'New" item in the Coach 1993 Holiday catalog.

This bag is listed for a low price because I do not have the combination to the lock and it's locked in the open position which means it will not shut tight. Consequently, whoever purchases this bag will need to be or visit a locksmith to eliminate this defect. This bag was $4 short of $500 back in 1993 which is $826 in 2016 dollars. My plan is to get to this to a locksmith when I have time, at which point the price will be corrected to reflect its real value.

The Coach 1993 Holiday Catalog listing says this about the Diplomat :

A. New Diplomat. N0. 5353 $496. Legal-size double gusseted brief. Full-length back open pocket. Leather-lined flap. Inside center organizational panel with three pen holders, business card pocket, utility pocket. Inside back zipper pocket. Pig suede lining. Combination lock closure. Padded handle. 17" x 11 1/4" x 5/34". British tan shown. Black, Mahogany.

Condition:

This briefcase is in good condition. It is structurally sound. There are no rips or tears or holes. The leather is soft and supple. There are very few scuffs and scratches on the leather panels, handles, and hardware. However, like most vintage bags there are some scuffs and scratches. Moreover, as noted above we do not have the combination and is locked in the open position so it will not latch. Please view the photos to evaluate the condition to see for yourself.

We do have another Coach Diplomat with an operable combination lock at the time of this listing. See it at https://www.etsy.com/listing/494741527/blackfridayweekend-coach-diplomat-black?ga_search_query=diplomat&ref=shop_items_search_1
