This magnificent antique English locket and collar necklace is on a grand scale hails from the height of the Aesthetic Period during Victoria's reign. Superbly crafted in Birmingham England the elaborate and ornate book chain is heavy and thick with multiple interconnected links that are accented with star motifs and set with a multitude of big round disks. A highly unusual necklace. The matching locket is oversized too and bulbous with plenty of room to fit photo's or mementoes. It is decorated with engraving, rope and ball accents and star motifs that match the collar necklace. The locket is attached with a large spring ring clasp and it can be detached from the collar and worn separately.
Hallmarked on the back of the locket with the lion rampant, anchor for Birmingham, and a gothic date letter "L" for 1885. Also stamped with the makers mark "JB"
The collar measures 17" in length with the large ring bale adding a 3" drop. The locket alone measures 2" (5cm) high and 1-5/8" (4.2cm) wide with the piece weighing 55 grams. Condition is excellent with no issues and the locket snaps firmly shut.
