Description

Hello:

This Christmas plate was made by Bing and Grondahl in 1991. The plate is part of the series, "Christmas in America". This is a hand-painted Copenhagen porcelain plate. The artist signature is on the back. The title of this plate is "Christmas Eve at Independence Hall". The plate is limited to the year 1991. The back of the plate has a crown symbol and underneath that it says, "Purveyor To Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark". There is also the three tower signature.

Bing and Grondahl was a Danish porcelain manufacturer founded in 1853 by the sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grondahl, and merchant brothers Meyer Bing and Jacob Bing. The trademark for this company is the three towers derived from the Coat of Arms of Copenhagen. In 1987 the company merged with its main competitor, The Royal Porcelain Factory under the name Royal Copenhagen. Bing and Grondahl created their first Christmas plate in 1895.

This plate features an image of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. A couple in period dress are walking through the snow to get to the hall. A single star hangs in the sky. This historic building is where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were debated and adopted. The building is the centerpiece of the Independence National Historic Park.

The plate measures 5 inches in diameter. It is in good condition. The plate has a metal hanger in place on back. The plate is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks or crazing.

This series of Christmas in America would be a nice addition to a Bing and Grondahl collection. Patriotic gift.
