Copper wire and Delica seed beads are inspired by the US desert Southwest, coming together with a sleek modern twist.

The chain is hand made with an ancient technique called trichonopoly, better known as Viking or Norse wire weaving. This involves painstakingly looping the wire around and around a mandrel to make a loose chain, then pulling the result through a draw plate to make an intricate, flexible, light weight, and sturdy necklace. (See the second to last picture for the process.) The ends are closed with a hand made hook and eye clasp.

The black and turquoise decorative slide bead is made of modern Japanese Delica beads, added together one at a time with peyote stitch. (See the last picture for the process.) Peyote stitch is another ancient technique, used around the world but popularized by the Native Americans in their spectacular bead work.

The finished necklace rests comfortably at the base of the neck, coming in at 16 3/4". There are some who believe that wearing copper is beneficial to their health, so I haven't sealed the wire at all. Therefore, it may tarnish and need to be polished periodically. Also some people's skin may react by temporarily discoloring if the necklace is worn for long periods of time.
