Description

This is a nicely crafted brown leather portfolio style briefcase by Michael Green. Portfolio style briefcases were very popular from the 1970's through the early 90s. This is a true classic designed by an ex hippie leather maker from Seattle.

This bag is suitable for carrying a 15 inch laptop as well as books and files. The interior is unlined suede. It has an interior slip pocket to hold those items you want to be able to get to quickly. The dual handles can be used to carry the case or you can treat it like a portfolio by letting them fold down on the sides.

Dimensions:

Length: 16 inches
Height: 11 inches
Width: 3 inches

Condition:

This bag is in good vintage condition. It has no rips, tears or holes and is structurally sound. However, like most leather bags over 30 it shows signs of wear over time through darkening of the leather, scuffs and scratches.

Michael Green began manufacturing bags in 1968. We do not have vintage catalogs from this company to determine when this bag was manufactured. However, based on vintage catalog listings from other bag manufacturing companies, the materials used in the construction of this bag and the style, it is our opinion this bag was manufactured sometime between 1970 and the late 1980s.

About Michael Green

Those of you who have browsed my other listings know that I like to research the background of the manufacturers of the bags we sell. My research has disclosed that Michael Green is an 'Ex Hippie' who began manufacturing leather bags since the 60s. This is what a 1993 Seattle Times Article had to say about Michael Green:

"Twenty five years ago (1968 based on this articles date), Michael Green was a hippie leather maker supporting himself on the streets of San Francisco by selling handmade leather sandals and clothes...Michael Green line of purses, bags and briefcases is inevitably compared with Coach leatherwear. Like Coach, Green's bags have clean, tailored lines and come in mostly traditional colors. Leatherwear connoisseurs, however, notice differences. Green's leather is a bit firmer, his styles slightly less blocky....Retailing from $26 for a small passport pouch to $264 for a briefcase, Green's bags cost somewhat less than Coach bags. He makes 35 styles in 13 colors, though some 60 percent of everything he sells is black. Each year Green adds four or five styles his newest designs are more gently rounded, he says, like the newest car silhouettes."

IT'S THE REAL THING PLEDGE. If we sell it, it's the real thing. We guarantee it's the real thing or you get your money back including your delivery costs we this pledge:

GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC OR ALL MONEY BACK. We understand there are counterfeits and knockoffs of vintage products by well known manufacturers for sale all over the internet and in other market places. We use multiple procedures to assure the products we sell are authentic. One procedure we use is to research authenticity through vintage manufacturer catalogs and to report our research in the listing. Sometimes we include a snippet from the catalog to corroborate our research and educate you about the history of the bag. The purpose of reporting what the manufacturer says about its product in the catalog is to verify our research on the authenticity and to educate you about how a vintage product was portrayed in the past. It is not intended to hold our shop out as a representative of the manufacturer. However, if it turns out we are wrong or our research is not correct we guarantee that if we sell you a product represented to be manufactured by a reputable company like Coach, Cole Haan, Ghurka, Filson, Christian Dior, Hartmann, Gucci, or any other company and you have competent evidence that the product is not authentic we will refund your purchase price and delivery cost. In addition, we will pay for return postage.
