Description

Meet Uma; this beautiful Ralli quilt looks great on a single or double bed. Uma's colour theme is blue, brown, and green. The reverse of Uma is beautiful indian printed cotton and the whole quilt has an intricate running stitch.

Uma measures 113 x182cm.

Ralli quilts are made in India, and usually from scraps of fabric; old clothes, bedding, scraps from factories, basically whatever people can find. This makes for really interesting quilts with wonderful quirky decisions often made in the making process. I have some quilts with old pockets from clothing incorporated, and occasional completely clashing patches where the main colour has run out. This lends a tremendous and unique charm to the quilts.

These quilts are not thick and are perfect for an extra layer in winter or used alone in summer.

I have guessed that this quilt was made in the 1970's or '80s, but I can not guarantee this. They have been stored in a container in India for some time. I have quilts which date from the 1950's and some more recent.

The quilts are painstakingly stitched in running stitch across the entire quilt surface, but they are not delicate precise pieces, they are rustic and often a little haphazard. The fabrics in the quilts are a wide range of pre-used fabrics, including cotton, rayon and satiny type fabrics, poly cotton and linen.

The quality and standard of the quilt is reflected the price, but even the most 'rustic' are charming and beautiful pieces.

This quilt has been machine washed using Eco friendly detergent at 30 degrees. My home is smoke free, but the quilts have previously been stored in a smoky environment. If there is any residual smoky smell it will fade once they are not being stored en mass. I have kept several of these for myself and they wash brilliantly and line dry surprisingly quickly, and no smell!
