Description

Victorian era white milk glass sauce dish with dolphin or fish cover. The medallions on the sides of this dish have a rope pattern around the borders, and the base of the dish has a well defined bottom rim. Both of these characteristics indicate that it is an authentic dophin sauce dish from the Victorian era as opposed to a 1970s reproduction. The dish is about 7" long, 3" wide, and 4" tall with the lid in place. The dish is in fairly good condition with a few chips along the edge of the cover and one chip along the bottom rim of the dish beneath the handle.

Here is some additional information from Realorrepro.com:
"The original has been attributed by one milk glass author (Millard-Opaque Glass) to Westmoreland but there is no other documentation. Like the majority of genuine Victorian era milk glass, the original is characterized by opalescence in the edges. It also has frequent casting lines in the surface which have filled in with dirt over time and now appear black. Although other colors of originals may have been made, the only old color we could confirm is white milk glass. The original milk glass dolphin sauce dish generally sells for about $95-$145".
