This is a great antique star pottery stoneware whiskey jug. It is a 2 gallon jug withe the collectible early blue circle star signature mark. I believe this dates from 1900-1930.

The Star Stoneware Company was in business from 1892-1945 with minimal operation from 1932-1945 because of the Depression. Star Stoneware purchased the Crooksville Pottery Company in 1903 along with the Ferro Enamel Corp of Cleveland, the Buckey Stoneware Company, and Muskingum Pottery.

This jug is beautifully crafted with basic primitive utilitarian charm. It has the gorgeous ivory cream white speckled base and handsome dome shape top with rich chocolate brown semi gloss salt glaze finish. The top pouring handle is hand applied. This jug features the signature blue circled star signature mark.

This jug is in excellent condition.

The jug measures about 14" tall, about 9" across the bottom. The top opening measures about 2" across. It weighs about 10 pounds.

The jugs came from a friend's grandfather and grandmother. It must have been made in the early 1900's north of Dayton, Ohio. The owner found this jug in the barn on her grandparents' farm.

One of the photographs shows all four jugs from the barn. This is to show you what all the jugs look like together. However, this listing is for the largest of the four jugs--the 14" star 2 gallon jug.

I will pack this as carefully as possible--double boxed, bubble wrapped, and padded--in hopes of its arrival in the same condition it left.
