This is Coach's Saddlery Bag. It is my opinion the color of this bag is Putty but others may see it differently. So, I have included a photo of all ten colors this bag was available in when it was sold to give you information from which you can make up your own mind. [ The best depiction of the actual color of this bag is the photo of the creed in photo 5 collage] This particular bag was made in the 1980's in New York City. Registration No. 702-1838. I don't have the catalog from that year but the 1986 catalog describes this bag very succinctly:

" No. 9535 Saddlery Bag. $114 A classically styled, streamlined pouch that holds a lot but doesn't look it. Full-length zippered compartment inside and an extra one under the flap assure easy access to keys, receipts, reminders. Shoulder strap can be made long enough to wear a cross the body. Solid brass turnlock and buckles. Dimensions 93/4" x 8 x 31/4". All 10 coach colors shown on page 2" (At photo 5 in our collage)

Length: 9 3/4 inches
Height: 8 inches
Width: 3 1/4 inches

Strap drop: adjustable up to 22 inches - can be worn cross body.

This bag has no rips, tears or holes. It is in good structural condition. However, like many vintage bags it has scuffs and scratches. There are several scuffs that are whitish. It also has some dark spots on the leather. Please see photos for most accurate depiction of this bag. I have used a product known as leather CPR to condition this bag. However, I have not attempted any additional rehab on this bag but it is my opinion these scuffs, scratches, and spost are easily removed by someone who uses common rehabilitation techniques. I have not attempted rehab of this bag because I believe a large percentage of those who consider buying this bag will want to do their own rehab.

Significance of NYC Coach Creed

NYC Coach bags are beginning to disappear at an alarming rate. This Coach leather bag is one of the most sought after Coach products by collectors because it is a "New York City Bag". These are some of the highest quality Coach products. "New York City" bags were made in the original Coach factory in New York City that operated from the late 1960's through the mid 1980's. Some, but not all, of the Coach bags produced during this era were designed by the well known American designer Bonnie Cashin. Consequently, when you buy a New York City Coach bag you are buying more than an accessory, you are making a potential investment.

The statement on the creed: "Made in New York City, U.S.A." verifies this bag's origin. It is authenticated by Coach Bag registration number: 702-1838.

Please review the photos carefully because they are part of this piece’s description and condition. Please feel free to ask questions or ask for more photos. Etsy limits the number of photos we can post with listing so we have more available.
