"Supinski's Treasure" is a Drypoint Etching is one of only 50 numbered prints in the completed edition.
*** Print also available framed upon request for $ 115

Dry point etchings are Drawings that are etched onto flat metal or plexi-glass plates using sharp drawing tools that engrave the lines and patterns into the plate. Once the drawing is completed, it is then ready to be inked up. A small mat board squeegee is used to drag ink across the surface of the plate and a piece of Tarlatan cloth works the ink down into the lines and grooves of the plate while the non-image areas wipe clean.

The inked, wiped plate is placed face up on the press bed and covered with a damp piece of archival, printmaking paper where it is hand cranked through an etching press. The pressure from the roller actually presses the damp, softened paper down into all the grooves and lines in the plate and lifts the ink out of them causing the inked image to be transferred from the plate, onto the paper. Etchings are not photographic reproductions which are created from one single artwork, but they are original prints because each print in the edition has been hand inked, wiped, printed, signed and numbered by the artist who created it. Although there is a small edition of the same image, each print is in essence an original work of art.

This etching is unmattted and unframed, shipped on acid free foam board in a clear archival sleeve. Image size is 9 3/4" x 4 3/4". When matted and framed the finished size would be approximately 12" x 10 1/4"..

*Reproductions of this etching are also available on hand made blank note cards also offered on this sight.

What inspired the creation of Supinski’s Treasure?

The idea for this drypoint etching came from a fishing trip in Michigan several years ago where we stayed at a fishing lodge owned by a renowned fly fishing guide, and author, Matt Supinski. While there, I spotted this old, rotting bench on a hidden corner of his porch. I was intrigued and immediately fell in love with the bench! Matt was also smitten by the bench when he found it. It had been a long time since anyone safely sat on the weathered bench so it’s physical usefulness was gone a long time ago. Matt saw something of far more worth than simply another piece of furniture . Most pleased, he brought it home and proudly placed it on his porch at the lodge
Though he was quite excited about the treasure he had discovered, his wife was a little less than enthusiastic about it. To him, it had unspeakable value and character. It was priceless, a one of a kind work of art. I can only imagine how wonderful it would be if that old bench could share some of the stories it had heard as fishermen perhaps shared their stories of conquest of defeat on the river that day. How many books were read to little ones underneath the shade of a big tree. Even in that rotting wood, long after it’s strength and …was gone, stood a beauty beyond words with character that can only be achieved through the passing of time. The moral of this story… one man’s trash is another man’s is in the eye of the beholder….or perhaps…. A real treasure is finding one who truly appreciates you for who you are, and it is enough. “Supinski’s Treasure”

I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a BFA in graphic design in 1985. My primary areas of concentration in college, and in the years to follow, have been Drawing and Printmaking, although I also enjoy experimenting with Pastels. Over the years I have participated in many outdoor art shows, exhibited my work in local galleries and had my work accepted, exhibited, and awarded in various National Shows across the United States including New Mexico.

My husband and I moved to Lancaster, KY in April of 2009 where I taught Youth and Adult Drawing and Printmaking classes at the Community Art Center from the Spring of 2011 to the Summer of 2015. We currently reside in Beavercreek, Ohio where I am a full time artist and I currently have my work in two Dayton, OH galleries, the ARTery Gallery and the Village Artisans Gallery in Yellow Springs.
