Shadows Jewelry Designs are made from high quality gems, metal and antique elements which should be treated with care.

-Do not wear jewelry in the shower or while swimming

-When you are planning any kind of strenuous activity, take your jewelry off, this includes all types of workouts.

-All jewelry should be removed prior to bed.

-Do not expose your jewelry to chemicals like bleach, chlorine, hairspray, etc. These chemicals may damage the stones and metals.

-In order to avoid snagging on clothing and hair, take jewelry off first when undressing and put it on last when dressing.

Vermeil is gold plated Sterling Silver. Anything plated will eventually wear away with time. With proper care you can extend the lifespan and have years of pleasure wearing your vermeil jewelry.

-Do not sleep with your vermeil jewelry. Night sweat and extra rubbing against the skin will cause the gold to wear off faster.

-Do not wear vermeil items to the gym or while doing any physical work or sports that might make you sweat. That will cause the plating to wear and tarnish faster.

-To prevent tarnishing, store your jewelry in a dry, sealed place such as a plastic ziplock bag. This prevents moisture and air from tarnishing the metal, and also prevents damage and tangling.

- Jewelry will tarnish more quickly in a humid environment, such as a tropical location, or a steamy room, so it is best to keep jewelry away from those environments.

-You can purchase a polishing cloth in the store for only a few dollars. They have a solution saturated into the cloth that removes tarnish. Just gently rub the tarnished area with the cloth until shine is restored. This is good for sterling silver, but not for vermeil which can eventually be rubbed off if polished too long or hard.

-Silver polish in a paste form works well. We like to use a soft toothbrush or sponge. Wet the paste just a bit, polish the tarnished metal, then rinse with warm soapy water and air dry before storing the jewelry.

-We do not recommend using a silver dip, as it will damage gemstones and pearls.
