Description

Minimalist Political Print 'Games of Losing Hope (3)', Protest Art by artist PrettyPolitical.

In response to recent events (Brexit, election of Trump, police brutality, war-crimes, to name a few..) I feel as if the world is playing games with me. How should I feel, what shall I do? What is right and what is wrong? Through the work 'Games of Losing Hope' I explore whether there is still space for morality, hope and positive ideas in these times.

In this print you see a bubble blower, with the bubbles reflecting creative, positive and hopeful ideas. Due to the nature of the bubbles and the wide open space they do not last long and cannot reach as far as they might want to. Inspired by a study of Frida Kahlo's work I stylize the images with similar gloomy pastel colours and singular, lonely objects set in vast empty spaces.

Other prints in this series:
'Games of Losing Hope (1)'
'Games of Losing Hope (2)'

A3 print (to fit standard frames) on Matt Ultra 240gms paper.

About PrettyPolitical:
My name is Jorine Beck (MA Arts & Global Development) and I am a Dutch political artist who lives and works in Birmingham, UK. All my art is hand drawn and painted with water colour, acrylic paint and inc. I love to give people food for thought, without dictating what they should think. I found that working with contrasts, metaphors and symbols allows me to create critical illustrations around global themes, but also leaves the necessary space for interpretation and nuance. Something that is often missing in today's public debates and something I would also want to see more in contemporary political art. I like to think of my work as conversation starters, and I am mostly interested in what happens in the space between the art work and the viewer.
