This hard cover art history was published in 1937 by the Garden City Publishing Co., Inc. It was translated from the French to English by Walter Pach. It has 517 profusely illustrated pages which include the index. There are also two pull-out time lines.

The end pages are somewhat tanned but not brittle. The book block itself was printed on a different and better paper, probably because of all the photographs. The dust jacket is tattered on the edges (see photos). There is an inscription written in ink on the front free end paper. (Photo 4)

This is an excellent and very readable art reference book.
