Description

Beautiful Green, Natural Peridot Necklace! This Peridot is moderately sized, at 1.22 ctw, 8mm length, and 6mm depth. The color is vivid green and graded AAA. The pendant is made from sterling silver. It is a simple 6-prong design with a double eyelet to allow for multiple chain types and sizes.

Peridot is one of the few gemstones that comes in only one general color. Depth of color varies though. The depth of green depends on how much iron is contained in the crystal structure, and varies from yellow-green to olive or brownish-green. This particular Peridot is a stunning, vivid green, excellent color.

Pendant only or choice of two sterling silver chain options; a box style, and a delicate wave style:
1) A delicate, 1.4mm Wave Chain (pictured)
2) Or a classy, 1.5mm Italian Box chain

Information regarding Peridot Gemstones:

Peridot (pair-uh-doe) is the gem variety of olivine. Olivine, is composed of two minerals; fayalite and forsterite. Fayalite is the iron rich member with a pure formula of Fe2SiO4. Forsterite is the magnesium rich member with a pure formula of Mg2SiO4. Olivine's formula is written as (Mg, Fe)2SiO4 to show the presence of magnesium and iron.

Iron is the coloring agent for peridot, and is usually closer to forsterite than fayalite in composition. The best colored peridot has an iron percentage of less than 15% and includes nickel and chromium as trace elements that may also contribute to the color.

Most gemstones of mineral origin are formed in the earth's crust. But there are two exceptions; both peridot and diamond are formed much deeper in the earth, in the region referred to as the mantle. Peridot crystals form in magma from the upper mantle (20 to 55 miles deep), and are brought to the surface by tectonic or volcanic activity where they are found in extrusive igneous rock. Diamonds were formed much deeper in the mantle (around 100 - 150 miles below the surface), at extreme temperatures and pressures.

Peridot Origins: Burma, Pakistan, China, Vietnam and the United States. The best peridot come from Mogok, Burma and Pakistan; although we have seen nice quality peridot from China.

MARILEI® Approach to Evaluating Peridot Gemstones:

Peridot is one of the few gemstones that comes in one color. Unlike Topaz, with its natural and heated variants, peridot's color is consistent and generally effected only by the depth of green as a result of iron content.

MARILEI® looks for vivid, striking color in Peridot. The ideal peridot is vivid with low saturation and a fire or bright / striking green. The strong birefringence of peridot provides a double refraction where light rays split into two. As a idiochromatic gem, impurities often show as platelet inclusions. We look for these inclusions, fissures, or pits and down-grade some gemstones, as a result. Because peridot is relatively common, we expect at least VVS clarity, and the cut should not have a window (i.e. as a property of the gemstone, the birefringence should be visible.)

Warranty: If you believe that what you have purchased was not accurately portrayed, defected in any way (including damage due to shipping), or you simply changed your mind; return the purchase in its original case with a note explaining your reason for return, your name and address, and we will refund your purchase completely. You are responsible for shipping costs associated with the return. We are unable to warranty your jewelry for damage due to use, including "wear and tear." If we determine that the jewelry was damaged by wear and tear, we will respond with a letter of determination and no refund will be issued. Please rest assured, that we want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase and recommending MARILEI®.

FAQs

We can customize jewelry for most gemstones listed. In some cases, removing a gemstone from a setting poses too much risk to the gemstone or the integrity of the jewelry. Etsy convo or email if you have a specific jewelry need you would like us to fulfill.
Marilei does not pay VAT / Excise or other taxes for you; with the exception of Sales Tax for Kansas / Missouri which is part of your sell price. It is your responsibility to understand when and how much you are to pay, based on your country's import laws. Country's treat importing of silver, gold, and colored gemstones differently. In some cases (depending on your country,) you will be required to pay a VAT tax when you pick up your jewelry. In other cases, you are not charged a tax as the purchase price is often under a country's tax threshold.
